I wonder how many Christians believe the center of the Gospel is their own efforts at being “fully surrendered” or obedient?
Jesus didn’t just come to deliver us from sin. He also came to deliver us from the religious sweatshop that demands a never ending effort to measure up. The cross has hung a “Gone Out of Business” sign on the door or religion and has taken us all on a permanent vacation with our Triune God.
Catherine of Sienna had a vision of God in which he said to her, I have more grace for you than you have sins to commit.

Never let someone play the role of the Holy Spirit for you. They cannot possibly do what He can do. It’s the blind leading the blind. Leaders are supposed to equip you to travel on your own two feet. Not load you down so that you can’t walk without them.
If you don’t follow their rules and if you question their teaching, what will they say about you? Would they say that you’re not a Christian or that something is wrong with your relationship with God? Then, they are false. They do not have authority over your eternal life. Only God does.
